Improvements to Ercan Airport
A new runway and terminal are part of the overhaul expected to take place at Ercan airport in the near future, part of the Government's privatisation package. The airport was last modernised in 2003/2004 and is to be the first state-run businesses to be sold to the private sector as part of the Government’s austerity measures.
There are also plans to privatise the electricity company Kib-Tek as well as other Government run businesses including the telecommunication department. Ercan is the first on the list following the launch of the new North Cyprus Airways – the first Public / private sector partnership.
More airlines are flying into Ercan, including most recently the welcoming back of Onur Air, and during 2011 they will be joined by Borajet and NCA.
State of the art landing systems and top-range instruments will also be included in the tender contract, which will help minimise any delays or cancelations due to bad weather or fog.
